Antenatal ultrasound of fetal brain: the added value of using the Z20

In this webinar, Prof. Tullio Ghi from Gemelli University Hospital presents a detailed session on fetal brain ultrasound, focusing on antenatal neurosonography and the added clinical value of the HERA Z20 ultrasound system.

The presentation covers the standard axial and mid-sagittal planes used in routine fetal brain assessments, including:

  • Transthalamic view for measuring biparietal diameter (BPD) and head circumference
  • Transventricular view for evaluating lateral ventricles and detecting ventriculomegaly
  • Transcerebellar view for assessing the cerebellum, cisterna magna, and posterior fossa
  • Mid-sagittal view for evaluating the corpus callosum, cavum septi pellucidi, brainstem, and vermis

Prof. Ghi demonstrates how the HERA Z20’s high-resolution imaging and automated measurement features support accurate and efficient evaluation of brain structures. He provides real-world cases where early anomalies were detected through optimized scanning protocols, and explains how clinicians can use specific anatomical landmarks to differentiate normal development from potential pathologies such as agenesis of the corpus callosum or Dandy-Walker malformation.

He also discusses the role of neurosonography in first- and second-trimester screening, how to adjust for fetal position challenges, and the importance of standardizing sweep techniques.

This session is ideal for OB/GYNs, sonographers, and fetal medicine specialists aiming to refine their approach to antenatal brain imaging and leverage the advanced imaging tools of the HERA Z20 ultrasound system.
