This white paper introduces NerveTrack™, an AI-powered ultrasound technology developed by Samsung Medison to support clinicians in nerve tracing during pain management procedures. It is designed to identify peripheral nerves, such as the median nerve, during ultrasound-guided injections, especially in complex anatomical areas like the carpal tunnel.
Traditional ultrasound requires manual pre-scanning to locate nerves, which can be challenging—particularly for beginners. NerveTrack™ eliminates this step by instantly identifying the nerve when the probe is positioned near the target area. Trained on extensive ultrasound image datasets, the system uses deep learning to recognize the nerve path in real-time and highlight it with precision.
In a virtual case study focused on the median nerve, the system demonstrated high educational value and clinical accuracy. Before using NerveTrack™, only 6 out of 40 trainees could identify the nerve correctly. After training with the tool, 37 participants accurately traced the nerve, with confidence scores improving significantly. These results underscore NerveTrack™’s utility in reducing procedure time, minimizing risk, and supporting trainee development in pain management.
NerveTrack™ is available on Samsung Medison’s V8 and HS40 ultrasound systems and is expected to enhance procedural safety and decision-making in both educational and clinical settings.
