Exploring the inter-vendor variability of GLS in healthy volunteers using left ventricular strain imaging

In this webinar, Prof. Viviana Maestrini from La Sapienza University of Rome presents a technical review of inter-vendor variability in global longitudinal strain (GLS) measurements using left ventricular strain imaging.

GLS is widely used in echocardiography to detect subclinical myocardial dysfunction and is considered more sensitive than ejection fraction in many clinical settings. However, the reproducibility of GLS across different ultrasound vendors remains a significant challenge in clinical practice and multicenter research.

Prof. Maestrini shares findings from a comparative study involving healthy volunteers, where GLS measurements were obtained using multiple commercial echocardiography systems. Despite identical acquisition protocols, the study revealed statistically significant differences in GLS values depending on the vendor-specific tracking algorithms and software.

Prof. Maestrini emphasizes the importance of recognizing this inter-vendor variability when interpreting GLS in both clinical and research environments. She also advocates for continued efforts toward standardization and cross-vendor calibration to ensure consistent longitudinal assessment.

This webinar is valuable for clinicians, researchers, and sonographers using GLS echocardiography in cardiomyopathy, oncology, and routine cardiac function assessment.
