In this expert insights session from ISUOG 2024, Prof. Tullio Ghi demonstrates the capabilities of fetal CNS ultrasound using Samsung’s HERA Z20 system. The live scan, performed on a 26-week pregnant volunteer, focuses on advanced brain imaging while showcasing other applications of the system.
Prof. Ghi highlights the exceptional clarity of the HERA Z20’s 2D imaging, describing it as “extremely clean”, which allows easy identification of intracranial structures. A key focus is on Live ViewAssist™, an AI-powered feature that automatically extracts standard anatomical planes of the fetal brain in accordance with international prenatal neurosonography guidelines.
By guiding the sonographer to obtain complete and standardized views, Live ViewAssist™ reduces operator dependency, increases reproducibility, and improves diagnostic confidence. The tool’s real-time assistance is especially valuable for detecting congenital anomalies such as ventriculomegaly, midline brain defects, and neural tube abnormalities.
Furthermore, the MV-Flow™ feature, which improves the visualization of vascular structures and helps diagnose blood circulation abnormalities in the fetal brain, is highlighted.
This demonstration reinforces how integrating advanced imaging technology with AI-assisted guidance can elevate both routine screening and targeted examinations, enabling earlier detection, better workflow efficiency, and improved clinical outcomes in prenatal care.
