This white paper examines the diagnostic value of 4D HyCoSy (Hysterosalpingo-contrast sonography) in evaluating tubal patency among women undergoing infertility screening. Conducted at the First Affiliated Hospital of Shantou University Medical College, the study utilized the Samsung HERA W10 ultrasound system with Asymmetric Pulse Modulation (APM) technology, enhancing the visibility of contrast agents during transvaginal imaging.
The procedure used SonoVue® as the ultrasound contrast agent and was performed between the 3rd and 10th day after menstruation. A 3D transvaginal probe captured high-resolution images of the uterus and fallopian tubes, enabling dynamic, real-time visualization of contrast flow. This made it possible to distinguish between patent and occluded fallopian tubes with high clarity.
Compared to traditional methods like hysterosalpingography (HSG) or laparoscopy, 4D HyCoSy offers a non-invasive, radiation-free, and cost-effective alternative. While 2D HyCoSy is commonly used, it often fails to visualize the full length of the tubes due to their anatomical complexity. In contrast, 4D HyCoSy provides volumetric imaging that captures the full trajectory of the contrast medium in a single injection, allowing for multi-angle, multi-frame, and post-analysis review.
The study concludes that 4D HyCoSy is clinically valuable for accurately assessing fallopian tube patency, offering a practical solution for infertility diagnosis with improved diagnostic detail and patient comfort.
